Beekum, Radboud van

After studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Radboud van Beekum (Rijswijk, the Netherlands, 1950) initially focused primarily on furniture design. During this period, he designed, among other things, the cube chair, which Pastoe launched in 1981. In 2000, a modified version of this design classic went back into production. Together with the spatial design team at the design agency Total Design in Amsterdam, he designed counter furniture for Dutch post offices, which was awarded the 1991 Kho Liang Ie Prize for industrial design. Later, he focused on museum and exhibition design, for projects such as the Rijksmuseum, Ahrend, and the Royal Palace on Dam Square. He also designed other public spaces, such as the Meervaart Theatre in Amsterdam. After teaching for several years in the Communications program at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, he focused on archival research. In 2003 this resulted in an exhibition and a book about the Amsterdam School architect BT Boeyinga (1886-1969).

BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.

Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
