Cees Braakman (1917-1995) Netherlands Cees Braakman started working at Pastoe in 1934, at the age of 17. His father was head of design there. He helped create the classic designs Pastoe produced during this period. After World War II, Braakman was sent to the United States to study and master other design skills and production processes. He visited no fewer than 12 different companies, but was most impressed and inspired by Herman Miller. There, he encountered the work of Ray and Charles Eames. After his return, he began experimenting with bending wood and created the first modern line of Pastoe furniture. This furniture line was well supported and marketed by the “Stichting Goed Wonen” (Good Living Foundation). This was a group of people who took the initiative to improve the standard of living, related to both the consumer and the designer. Braakman spent a lot of time on his favorite furniture, the wall cabinets. Various series came from his hand, such as the U + N series. The emphasis was always on top-quality materials.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collectorâs items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
