(USA, Charles 1907 – 1978 and Ray 1912 – 1989)
Charles Eames was born in St. Louis. He studied architecture at the University of Washington. In 1936, he received an honors degree from Cranbrook Academy. Among his colleagues were Bertoia, Saarinen, and Ray Kaiser, whom he married in 1941. During World War II, Ray and Charles produced plywood arm and leg splints using a newly developed method of bending wood into complex angles and shapes. In 1946, Saarinen and Eames won an organic design commission for residential furniture, held at the MOMA. In 1946, the MOMA gave Charles Eames its first one-man show (new furniture by Charles Eames). Charles and Ray Eames found a reliable and loyal manufacturer and worked closely with them to jointly produce high-quality, innovative living room and office furniture. These types of products are still available from specialists in design classics, not in the residential market. Later, Ray and Charles Eames focused more on filmmaking, photography, and exhibition design.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
