Jacobsen, Arne

Jacobsen, Arne

Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902. He apprenticed as a stonemason and then studied architecture at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, graduating in 1927. During his studies, in 1925, he won a silver medal for a chair displayed at the International Exhibition in Paris. After graduating, from 1927 to 1929, he worked at an architectural firm run by Paul Holsoe, after which he started his own firm. He became an independent architect and interior designer in Hellerup. In his early work, Arne Jacobsen was inspired by Le Corbusier, Asplund, and Mies van der Rohe. In 1929, Arne, together with Flemming Lassen, designed the House of the Future, which introduced modernism to Danish design. When Arne Jacobsen began working for Frits Hansen in 1947, he designed, among other things, the Ant (1951-1952) chair and the Series 7 chair (1955). Both of these remain among the most commercially successful designs ever. For his best-known designs, such as the SAS Air Terminal and the Royal Hotel, he designed every detail, from the fabrics, light fixtures, ashtrays, and cutlery to furniture like the Swan and the Egg (1957-1958). He designed lighting for Louis Poulsen, metalwork for Stelton & Michelsen, textiles for August Millech, Grautex, and Olesen, and bathroom accessories for Lunds. From 1956 to 1965, Jacobsen was a professor at the School for Bridge Art in Copenhagen, where he died in 1971.

BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.

Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
